The Wellington Hotel

Overlooking the harbour in the Cornish fishing village of Boscastle and surrounded by the beautiful North Cornwall coastline, The Wellington has been providing a warm welcome to its guest for many years. It is one of Cornwall’s oldest Coaching Inns and dates back to the 16th Century. Originally known as the Bos Castle Hotel, the hotel was renamed in 1852 in honour of the “Iron Duke”, the Duke Of Wellington. Past guests have included royalty and celebrities such as King Edward VII, Sir Henry Irving, Guy Gibson and Thomas Hardy.

Today, everyone is welcome at The Wellington – you, your loved one, your family and even your dog. Our bedrooms are traditional yet equipped to meet the needs of the modern world and our food, whether eaten in the bar or the restaurant is locally sourced and freshly prepared. We have a Lounge where you can take morning coffee, afternoon tea or just unwind with a good book. Throughout the hotel, we aim to provide you with a friendly and professional service. We also adopt a sustainable and responsible approach to running our business and are continually seeking to reduce our impact on the environment. The Long Bar is a traditional pub serving real ales and fantastic pub food. With beamed ceilings and an open fire, it’s a great place to enjoy a drink, a snack or a full meal.

You can sit at the bar or at one of many tables either in the bar area or in the Minstrels’ Gallery. Alternatively, for an experience that is a little bit special try our award winning restaurant. The menu reflects a mix of modern and traditional British cuisine and is set in our beautifully refurbished Georgian dining room.

All the food is freshly prepared and cooked in our kitchen by the Head Chef and his team, using local Cornish produce wherever possible. The hotel is set in 10 acres of woodland that extend up the valley and on to the village at the top of the hill. At the front of the hotel, there is a terrace that catches the evening sun and is a lovely place to enjoy an early evening drink. Behind the hotel is the beer garden that can be reached through the Long Bar. For those prepared to venture into the wooded valley beyond the beer garden, you will be rewarded with one of the best harbour and sea views in Boscastle from the appropriately named Artist’s Chair. Boscastle is amongst some the most beautiful countryside in Britain. Designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the National Trust owns and cares for the medieval harbour and surrounding coastline, which, once a hive of trade activity, still has a few small fishing boats and there are a number of cafes, bars and restaurants along the harbour and the village high street. With spectacular walks along coastal footpaths, beaches with great surfing, championship golf courses and many other activities all nearby, Boscastle is ideally located for touring Cornwall and North Devon.
